When Maanav Karamchandani was six years old he started his nonprofit organization, My Jal, which translates to “my water” in Hindi. The purpose of this organization is to help solve the clean water crisis in India. My Jal does this by partnering with different schools throughout India and using donations to test their water and determine the best way to go about drilling a well to access clean drinking water.
Moving forward with the planning and execution of My Jal, Maanav has partnered with big names such as UNICEF and Elixir India. Together, Maanav and his team, have completed six well-digging projects, as well as food and supply drive at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
When considering future possibilities, Maanav hopes and plans to bring My Jal to UNC-Chapel Hill. Maanav has expressed that he wants to bring the projects that he has completed in India to the United States, specifically North Carolina. He plans to partner with students that are passionate about providing clean, sustainable drinking water around the globe.
